Nov 28, 2023 · Confirmed 2024 Samsung HW-Q990D. Honestly unsure what they could improve besides adding HDMI 2.1 unless they decide to upgrade the hardware add 4" drivers etc, better sub which they already did somewhat with Q990B/C. Honestly, all TV's with HDMI 2.1 already have Earc which already have every compatibility needed.

May 30, 2024 · Enabling brought it up slightly. Considering 90% of the time the volume will be at more comfortable levels (8-12 volume) it works. However when listening to movies with the volume cranked up I didn't notice much difference between the two settings, so left it on. But that could be due to some of the content I watch at higher volumes.

Samsung HW-Q990D. The new soundbar Samsung HW-Q990D has already been released for sale. Are there any first lucky owners yet? It would be cool to know if there is a difference in sound specifically between the C and D models. The speakers material is the same so the sound is the same everything else is a gimmick.

Realistically, Q990d surpasses Q990c as the best Samsung soundbar. While many would point to the largely unchanged sound profile, the support of full HDMI 2.1 video passthrough is a godsend for all the gamers out there and new sound modes like Private listening and Sound Grouping both are very useful and will be in demand from buyers.
Will I regret getting a Samsung Q990C over the Q990D?
I’m planning on getting a LG G4 OLED in November after prices drop more, but was thinking of upgrading the soundbar earlier. Q990C doesn’t have HDMI 2.1 ports so it’d be bad for PS5 and Xbox Series X. But there would be 3 other HDMI ports on the TV to use. 990C is $690 and 990D is $1040 on Samsung’s education store currently.

if your tv has 4 HDMI 2.1 ports, you don't need the Q990D. the major difference is the Q990D has HDMI 2.1 support and Q990C doesn't. You buy the q990c for $1k or less and this time next year buy the q990d for $1k or less if you think you need it. Don't buy these at release. I have a LG C3 and Samsung HW-Q990C.
