What's the difference between ATA, PATA, and IDE?
Dec 30, 2011 · When SATA ( Serial ATA ) came out, people started using PATA (Parallel ATA) to refer to the older parallel connected bus (those using ribbon cable), to be more specific than the term ATA, which can refer to either. Both are part of the ATA standard, and use the same logical command sets, but SATA obviously has a different electrical interface.

It only gives this message sometimes when I start up the computer.

"Ultra ATA" is "standard IDE" so yes, it should be 100% compatible with any modern USB-to-IDE adapter or enclosure. See Wikipedia's Parallel ATA article for the full history. As of 2016-2021, there are five different revisions of the SATA standard.

Jan 21, 2008 · Disk 3 not found parallel ATA, PATA-1 Pri IDE Slave . Strike the F1 Key to continue F2 to run the setup utility . F1 continues on without further incident. I did read similar posts but not for this particular Dell model. I have not changed any BIOS settings so I do not know why they would have gotten changed to cause this. Can anyone help? thanks
