Here in Costa Rica the fronds of african palms get placed in "windrows" where people dont walk during harvest, eventually the fronds decompose. But we have lots af rain...An other benefit is harvesters can spot snakes on the cleaned area around the palm trees.

It makes since to me though, when I was cutting the fronds up by hand, you needed to cut perpendicular (90 degrees) against the way the fibres ran.

Apr 13, 2015 · Disc models are made with the disc mounted at either a 90 o or 45 o angle to the feed. If you get a disc chipper for palm fronds, do NOT get one with 45 o orientation. Sep 9, 2022 · Btw, my king palm came from the nursery with the ends of several fronds snipped off. Is the idea that those fronds will die and fall off, but the overall tree can still survive with new growth? Nurseries routinely snip off any brown tips on palms and other plants so they are cosmetically more pleasing.

Here is a pic of the one in the backyard, the fronds put out last summer are almost all there except for the one that died off during the summer. This palm is bound to be 11'-12' tall at this point.

Nov 26, 2021 · It has three sections and a great blade that cuts through palm fronds with ease and I also use it to trim other trees like oak. It’s a bit unwieldy at full length, holding it up and try to cut and avoid falling debris. The one and two section lengths is best and easy to handle.

Apr 18, 2017 · It can be a result of cold weather, or a trace element deficiency such as zinc. Zinc deficiency can cause little leaf syndrome. In cold weather cold roots can't always absorb trace elements properly so sometimes little leaf happens in the winter. Maybe worth taking a pH test of the soil or giving a few trace elements to the soil may help.

Get yourself a sharpie put a line down towards the bottom of the spear and the old frond half of the line on the spear and half on the frond lined up so you can see if the frond is still pushing upward. Bottle palm fronds can grow up to 12' long so it is possible it's still pushing up.

Apr 5, 2020 · Both palms did get a good dose of palm-specific fertilizer in the meantime, so it could have been a transient nutrient deficiency like boron. Here's a good overview on boron. I lay my large fans down and just chop my pinnate leaves up with the hand pruners, then at some point I just throw a top layer of wood chips on them.
