  1. The Omo Valley is home to several indigenous, tribal people, including the Bodi (Me’en), Daasanach, Kara (or Karo), Kwegu (or Muguji), Mursi and Nyangatom1. These people live along the Omo and depend on it for their livelihood, having developed complex socio-economic and ecological practices intricately adapted to the harsh and often unpredictable conditions of the region’s semi-arid climate1. Many of these people are agro-pastoralists who live close to the river or lake during the dry season but return to the grasslands when the rains come2.
