Anchor fishing for halibut is fun, relaxing, and deadly when you put it all together, and works when currents are too fast to stay down drifting. It also pays big dividends when fishing for rockfish and lings.

I use them almost exclusively and they seem to catch the larger halibut vs. the bait on the ocean, and the halibut go crazy for them. The only problem is, I lose about 30% of my fish when hooked on this jig (the Mudraker).

Nov 15, 2009 · Very smooth and generates good leverage (and for me casts well) That reel gets mounted on everything from a 5'6" heavy standup rod for deepwater halibut, to a 6'6" trolling rod for albacore, to a 12' Surf rod for shorefishing sturgeon. The 6/1 ratio has its downside as does the lack of levelwind.
