They were cheap $2245 (or $22,550 in today's money) Early sports cars, especially European didn't have much power at all. Porsche 356 started at 59 hp and only 95 hp by the final model. (Mind you these weren't and aren't cheap). I think this trend lasted until late 70s. I think the Nissan 280Z was the last really cool looking cheap sports car.

Electronic assists can help mitigate this, but past a certain point you can’t stop physics. Step on the brakes in the middle of a corner with front engine car and you can probably maintain control. Do that with a mid or rear engine car and you better hope those nannies come to save you. Some cars you don’t want to even lift off the gas.

Mar 6, 2024 · It’s amazing how cheap 8 year old range rovers are. It makes sense - owning one of those things out of warranty isn’t something smart people do, but they are cheap. I don’t know enough about them to tell the model years apart so even the 6-8 year old cars look damn near new to me. Cheap to buy, not so cheap to own.

Jan 22, 2024 · "Cool" cars are a status symbol, also fast, you can't build a fast car without beefing all the components to accommodate for the increase in performance, that gets expensive quick. There are cool looking cheap cars, but they don't sell a lot because they're underpowered. Subaru BRZ, mazda Miata, base mustangs.

The later stuff is still pretty cheap and can be good beginner cars. Firebirds are more rare, but better looking I think. They’re generally all automatic and generally easy to get parts for.
