Industrial sand filters are common equipment in industrial water treatment projects that use sand beds as filter media to remove impurities from water. They can be divided into different types and are used in industrial and agricultural contexts to treat wastewater and other types of water.

Industrial sand filters can filter particles down to 10 to 25 microns and achieve at least 5-micron filtration depending upon filter vessel sizing and arrangement. When water flows down the bed, it experienced different layers of filtration media. It is known as multi-media sand filters.

Sand filters are used as a step in the water treatment process of water purification. There are three main types; rapid (gravity) sand filters, upward flow sand filters and slow sand filters. All three methods are used extensively in the water industry throughout the world.
