The treatment of upper back pain includes gentle stretches, over-the-counter pain-relieving medications, ice packs to reduce pain and swelling, and posture exercises. Rarely upper back pain needs surgery. Some of the surgical procedures include Kyphoplasty pr vertebroplasty, spinal decompression or spinal laminectomy, and microdiscectomy. Depending on the cause of pain and injury, the procedure is planned accordingly after running the respective diagnostic tests.
