Matt Borgschulte is returning to the organization as the big league hitting coach, according to Access Twins' Brandon Warne and confirmed by multiple reports. Borgschulte was previously with the Twins from 2018-21 in various minor league hitting coach positions before spending the last three seasons as the Baltimore Orioles' co-hitting coach.

The Twins moved quickly to make their first coaching hire to begin the rebuild of their hitting group, with a source indicating on Monday that the organization will bring back Baltimore hitting coach Matt Borgschulte to serve in the same role on Twins manager Rocco Baldelli’s 2025 staff.

Following their late-season collapse, the Minnesota Twins want to alter their offensive philosophy and hope to do so by bringing back an old friend. A team source said Monday the Twins are set to name former Triple-A hitting coach Matt Borgschulte as their major-league hitting coach.

Borgschulte, 33, spent four seasons as a Twins minor league hitting coach from 2018 to ’21 and he was always candidate for a spot on manager Rocco Baldelli’s staff. He worked closely with many current Twins hitters when he was at St. Paul, and Fort Myers in 2019, including Royce Lewis, Trevor Larnach, Ryan Jeffers and Jose Miranda.

Since 2022, Matt Borgschulte and Ryan Fuller shared hitting coach duties in Baltimore. Neither will be with the Orioles in 2025. A few days after Fuller’s departure, a source with direct knowledge of the situation told The Baltimore Sun that Borgschulte is no longer with the Orioles after accepting a job with the Minnesota Twins.

While with Baltimore the past three seasons, Borgschulte worked with young hitters like Adley Rutschman, Gunnar Henderson, Jordan Westburg and Colton Cowser. Baltimore's Anthony Santander and Ryan O'Hearn also saw their offensive production improve during that time.
