MP Mike Amesbury has been suspended from the Labour party after CCTV footage emerged which appears to show he punched one of his constituents in the face before attacking the victim while he was on the floor.

CCTV footage has emerged appearing to show Labour MP Mike Amesbury punching a man to the ground. In footage obtained by the Daily Mail,, external the Runcorn and Helsby MP is apparently seen continuing to hit the man as he lies in the street.

Mr Amesbury said he will ‘co-operate with any inquiries’, after footage circulated online seemed to show him berating a man who was lying on the road.

A Labour MP who appeared to punch one of his constituents in an altercation on a night out has been suspended by the party. A spokesman for the party confirmed that Mike Amesbury has had the whip removed after footage emerged of the incident,
