The Maritime Sikh Society, which Gursimran Kaur's family is a part of, shared in an update on GoFundMe on Friday, Oct. 25, that they had raised over $140,000 ($194,000 Canadian dollars) in funds to benefit her “bereaved family” — some of whom had been in India trying to fly to Canada for Kaur’s funeral.

As the investigation continues into the death of a teenage Walmart employee, who was found dead in a walk-in oven, police have asked that the public be mindful about what they're saying online, and not share "speculative information."

According to reports, both the daughter and her mother had been employed at the Mumford Road Walmart for the past two years and were well-known within Halifax's Sikh community.
