FIFA officially announces a new collaboration with an exciting new partner for its upcoming FIFAe World Cup tournaments happening later this year.

Konami's eFootball, the game previously known as Pro Evolution Soccer, will fill the Fifa esports vacuum left by EA Sports.

FIFA has chosen Konami as its new esports partner following the association's split with EA, with eFootball playing host to the FIFAe World Cup this year.

In May 2022, EA blew the whistle on its long-running deal with world football governing body FIFA. The publisher's execs had long grumbled that they were paying a huge royalty and had done more than anyone to grow the FIFA brand to where it is today, and so the decision was made to drop the FIFA brand and become EA Sports FC.

Konami Digital Entertainment and FIFA are joining forces to elevate esports with the FIFAe World Cup featuring eFootball. As announced on Konami's official site, the company's eFootball games will be utilized for two different FIFAe World Cup tournaments: one for mobile and one for consoles. However, the deal between Konami and FIFA is only for esports, and doesn't involve a new console game or rebranding eFootball as a FIFA title.

FIFA didn't exactly get out of the video game business after parting ways with EA. Soccer’s governing body has teamed up with Konami to host two editions of the FIFAe World Cup on the console and mobile versions of eFootball later this year.
