Hi! I plan to do a sunrise hike but I am confused about parking. I know I will have to park on the street, but what am I looking for? Is there a lot specifically for this hike? I am seeing 2 names; the lighthouse trail and the ka'iwi trail, and it doesn't look like they start in the same place! Thanks for any help!

There is a small lot at the trail head, along the road to the trail, and at the Mokapu'u Overlook. The park and trailhead are located off of the Kalanianaole Highway (Hwy. 72) at the southeastern-most point of Oahu. From Honolulu, take the H1 freeway east until it becomes Highway 72. Follow the road beyond Hawaii Kai, Hanauma Bay and Sandy Beach Park until you reach the park area adjacent to the highway. Hope this helps.
Q:
Can I Uber there and back from Waikiki easiliy?
A:
I didn't uber on the island, but it was a moderate drive from waikiki... probably ~30 minutes. Might be more cost effective to rent a car if you are able.

I'm thinking of taking my mom, who's around 60 years old, to see the tide pools. However, I'm a bit concerned about the safety of this hike. Do you guys advise this? How long did it take to get to the bottom of the trail to the tide pools? Also, how long did it take to get to the top of the trail to the lighthouse?
A:
I wouldn’t advise hiking to the tide pools. There isn’t a managed trail. If you want to see some tide pools, there is a pull off nearby between there and the Halona blowhole. You can walk …

I wouldn’t advise hiking to the tide pools. There isn’t a managed trail. If you want to see some tide pools, there is a pull off nearby between there and the Halona blowhole. You can walk right out to the beach area and see tide pools there. Not much of a walk from parking area, and it’s mainly rock and sand, pretty flat, and you can walk to the rock area.

Where are suggested parking spots if you want to hike the trail at night. I know the gates close and are locked around 7:45p.m. I'm a bit sketched to park on the road because I don't want my car broken into. I want to shoot the lighthouse at night but am truly worried about my car being parked on the main highway....
A:
It is all in a valley and there is nothing there but the road? If you really want to shoot at night you might have to empty your car and take your chances because there is no other parking?

If you have any knee/joint problems and are doing Diamond Head in the morning. You will be very sore. I am a registered nurse and my husband and I both did this trek in the late afternoon with overcast skies and some wind. My husband has blood pressure problems and we had to keep stopping several times along the way. I am in good shape, but nevertheless it is a good hike. The good thing about the trek is it is well paved, there are sitting areas along the way so you can take it easy. Definitely bring some water with you. The views are spectacular, especially at the very top. I would suggest afterwards some motrin and ice up your knees when you get back to your hotel. Good Luck.
